Our first place teams walked away with $250 cash and a cool trophy!

Cary, NC — CaryCitizen had our highest turn-out ever for our sixth annual Cary Scavenger Hunt – 63 teams registered to play and discover clues placed all over Cary.

6th Annual Cary Scavenger Hunt

The adventure started at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center.

Breakfast was provided by The Richards’ Advantage McDonald’s, Toast Cafe, Edible Arrangements, Relay Foods and Once in a Blue Moon Cafe.

A record number of teams signed up in advance to play and checked-in with us by 9:30. They were then given their clue books and began to strategize to use their time wisely. All teams had to return by 1:30 pm to have their scores tallied.

Due to predicted inclement weather Saturday for afternoon, we made a move to hold our finish-line festivities inside Cary’s Town Hall right next door.

Hilarious Team Photos

For the first time ever, teams uploaded photos from the field to a secure email address. We have some hilarious photos to share of their adventures.

The Winners

When teams came back to Town Hall, a party awaited them included 24 booths filled with food and fun to keep them busy while their scores were tallied by our esteemed celebrity judges.

Then, we announced our winners. The three 1st place teams were:

The Real EsTATE Chix won in our new Corporate team category

Plenty of Fun

Regardless of whether teams won or lost, there was plenty of fun for all.

Many of our sponsors donated fun raffle prizes that included tickets to Cary Invasion games and opening nights at the Cary Players theater productions, a two-night stay at the Mayton Inn, jewelry from Stonehaven Jewelers and much more.

If you would like to see the the scores of all who competed, visit the official scoreboard on the Scavenger Hunt website. We will be announcing plans for the 2016 Cary Scavenger Hunt soon when we have a date set. Who knows – maybe your team will be a winner next year!

Three Team Categories

Teams register to compete in one of three team categories. They are:

  • Adult Teams – Four unrelated or semi-related adults (all over 18)
  • Family Teams – Adults with related children or parts or two families (someone is a parent of the others on the team)
  • Corporate Teams – Employees from one company. A company may sponsor from 1-3 teams of their employees. This can include spouses or families of employees. They will wear shirts bearing the company logo during the Hunt.

Winners of the Cary Scavenger Hunt are awarded trophies stuffed with cash

What Teams Win

The top three teams in each category will win trophies for first, second and third place.

They also win cash prizes to split between them:

  • 1st Place – $250

There is even a prize for the team with the lowest score of the day. That team will be awarded four tickets to Triangle Food Tour’s Downtown Cary restaurant tasting tour, to be scheduled when it suits the team members. Great way for them to learn a little more about Cary, right?

Raffle Drawings mean anyone can win!

You don’t have to be an expert to win something cool at the Cary Scavenger Hunt. Everyone can enter to win FREE raffle drawings at the finish. The grand raffle prize this year is a “Sweet Escape to a Romantic Hideaway” donated by the soon-to-open Mayton Inn.

Get pampered with two luxurious nights in the romantic Waldo Cottage at the Mayton Inn. Enjoy a couples massage followed by a toast and dinner in their restaurant, Veranda. Have a nightcap of port and chocolates. Breakfast in the morning completes the package, valued at $1,100.

Clue Bombs: Hints are Coming

Team from 2014 at a clue location

Cary, NC — As we gear up for our Cary Scavenger Hunt, we realize that folks might be intimidated about signing up. We have some helpful hints that will give you an idea of what to expect and may help you win! ClueBombs are coming!

What’s a Clue?

Scavenger Hunt Clues typically encompass Cary trivia: Information about local history, parks, public artworks, greenways, event venues and local businesses.

The answers we seek generally fall into three categories:

  1. Take a team photo at a location
  2. Bring back an item to prove your visit
  3. Answer a question in our book

But, some people are still nervous. Cary-ites are competitive. They want an edge. They need a little help. ClueBombs to the rescue!

ClueBombs – Defined

Starting in July, as CaryCitizen travels around Cary meeting people writing stories, we begin to shape the questions that will ultimately land in our Cary Scavenger Hunt Official Clue Book. We take dozens of photos and ask hundreds of questions from local experts.

Then, we start to hint around and share some of that information. Where do we share? On our social media streams. But you have to follow us to see these hints. You can:

It could help you win.

Here’s one of the ClueBombs we dropped recently:

Cluebomb of public art in Cary

This sculpture was part of the 2012 Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit and is now a permanent piece in a public place. Kyoto is its name. Can you find its space?

Look for these and other ClueBombs on our social media feeds.

These posts will be tagged: #CaryScavengerHunt and #cluebomb with a number corresponding to the order of clues dropped. We’ll be posting from July 7 through August 30 in advance of the 2015 Cary Scavenger Hunt.

Happy Hunting!

Corporate Teams: Represent Your Company

Cary, NC — Every year, CaryCitizen comes up with new twists for our annual event, the Cary Scavenger Hunt. Last year, we added live electronic scoring. This year, it’s Corporate Teams!

Represent Your Company

This year, we’ve added a new team Category to the Hunt: Corporate Teams. Companies can sponsor one, two or three teams of employees who compete on behalf of their business. These teams will sport special shirts that have their company’s logo screen printed on the back.

The Cary Scavenger Hunt has always been an awesome team-building event. Teams of four must strategize. They quickly look through our clue book of questions, figure out where they can get the most points and then map out a plan of action.

The best teams work well together. Someone is a great navigator, someone drives and another member figures out the clues. One keeps track of the photos. It’s Team Building at its finest.

Sign Up 1-3 Teams

How can a company sign-up to sponsor a team? Can more than one team compete?

Visit our sign-up page, and you’ll see three Corporate sponsorship levels:

  • 1 Team – $100
  • 2 teams – $175
  • or 3 teams – $225

Have a company representative visit our Eventbrite page to fill out the registration and provide a company contact person and payment. If you prefer, contact CaryCitizen directly to arrange all the particulars by emailing Lindsey Chester.

Registration includes teams of four people who will all sport special Cary Scavenger Hunt event T-shirts with your company logo on the back.

Come up with a fun name for that particular Team. For example, the “Lenovo Loonies” or the “Cisco Crazies.” CaryCitizen will contact corporate team registrants to receive a digital copy of the company logo for reproduction.

We may even add a special page to our website listing all the Corporate sponsors – a nice little piece of PR for your company. We already have three corporate teams signed up! A past team representing Allen Tate Realty Cary-Searstone had so much fun last year that they eagerly signed up three teams to compete this year!

Raffle drawings mean anyone can wcome away a winner!

Win Big

Not only will your company employees have a day filled with team building, they might win big! First place teams will win big event trophies and $250 cash! 2nd and 3rd place teams will win trophies too! The finish area includes food and activities (just like a race), and, also, free raffle prize drawings, meaning that anyone can win something.

Our Grand Prize raffle this year is a Sweet Escape two-night stay at Downtown Cary’s new Mayton Inn, including dinner at Veranda and drinks in their bar. Another raffle prize is jewelry from Stonehaven Jewelers. Others will include massages, gift cards and more.

You don’t need to be an expert on Cary to Win!
